Forslund v. Minnesota
Unequal Access to Great Teachers
State laws around teacher retention, dismissal, and layoffs make it nearly impossible for schools to let ineffective teachers go and keep effective ones. These laws negatively impact low- income students and students of color the most.
Challenge the Constitutionality of These Unjust Laws
We recruited the Partnership for Educational Justice to help local families access pro bono legal assistance to fight these unjust laws. The four plaintiffs had been fighting for their kids' educational rights for years with no success.
A lawsuit was filed in April 16, 2016 against the State of Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Education, and mulitple MN school districts. The suit has also drawn a national spotlight to the racial and economic inequities in Minnesota's education system.
